Why Alignment Affects Your Safety Systems

For modern vehicles, wheel alignment directly impacts ADAS calibration.

Traditional wheel alignment corrects the angles of your wheels so your vehicle drives straight and tires wear evenly. But for modern vehicles equipped with ADAS, alignment does something more: it changes the mathematical direction your chassis is pointing — known as the thrust angle.

Your vehicle's forward-facing radar and cameras are calibrated based on this thrust angle. If alignment changes the thrust angle by even one millimeter, your radar may now be pointing at the wrong lane or calculating distances incorrectly. The vehicle drives fine, but the safety systems are misaligned.

This is why, for many modern vehicles, wheel alignment requires verification and calibration of the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and connected ADAS systems. The physical geometry of your vehicle must match exactly what its electronic "eyes" are programmed to see.
