The Radar Ecosystem in Your Vehicle
Multiple radar sensors work together to protect you on the road.
Modern vehicles use multiple radar sensors positioned throughout the car. The front radar, mounted behind the front fascia or bumper, enables adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Rear radar sensors, often hidden in the rear bumper corners, power blind spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert.
These radar systems measure distance and closing speed to other vehicles in milliseconds — constantly calculating whether you need to brake, steer, or be alerted to danger. For this to work correctly, each radar must be precisely aligned with the vehicle's centerline and geometry.
When radar sensors are knocked out of alignment — even slightly — they can measure distances incorrectly. Your adaptive cruise might brake too late or too early, your emergency braking might activate without cause, or your blind spot monitoring might fail to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes.
